The process of making a collage is extremely satisfying and stretches my imagination, vision, and intelligence. The term comes from the French word "coller," meaning "to stick," and in this case, "to stick on with glue. "Most collages are made with "found" materials (ephemera such as postcards, newspaper scraps, cardboard), continuing the tradition introduced by various cubist artists such as Picasso and Braque. In some instances, I use not only found paper but also paper I have made. I enjoy the challenge of working with two-dimensional elements to create depth and texture while expressing what is not sayable.
